Heated steering wheel rocks -- my first one and as long as I'm living in the snowbelt, I'll have to have one..
I agree the Idrive vent temp settings is ridiculously over overly-complicated..I recall on my e39 (right next to central vents) was a simple on/off slide & wheel that went from red to blue -- easy and intuitive.
BMW out-thunk themselves on this one...

This is similar to anything in the iDrive. Once you get used to it - its like second nature.
In order to speed the heating process, make sure your AC light is turned off [the one with the snow-flake on it] when you activate your heating. This prevents the cooling elements from even kicking in....
