I'm looking to replace 04 RX330 with over 120,000 miles on it. Newer RX model (new body) is still over $35,000, so I thought used low mileage Volvo is going to be a good alternative. Yes I look at MDX, I'm just afraid Honda's transmission is not last long. Remember Acura 3.2 TL? yes Volvo XC90 is also suffered with tranny failures but only on early production 2004-2005 (most reports). Also MDX is more like a truck type SUV, then crossover as XC90. Also it seems to me MDX doesn't have roof rack. How do I get Christmas tree to the house from farm?
Well I will look into MDX vs XC90 (price and futures).
Thanks

Also, the transmission issue with MDX was isolated to 1st generation MDX (ie., the 2001, 2002 and some 2003 models). And you can add the option of OEM roof rack to MDX (~$400-$500 DIY). The new models also have a better all-wheel drive system called SH-AWD, this thing rocks on high speed turn.
For me, I'd take a pre-owned Honda any day over pre-owned Volvo (especially the ones from Ford era). That's just me, don't flame me if you're a die hard Volvo fan. We considered Volvo because of safety features and 3rd row seats.

Agree. BMW, Lexus.... ect is more luxury SUV.
Also I looked couple them at Volvo dealer, it's true, there are looked a little more worn, then expect for this year. Also, it's nice inside, but plastic is making some noises. But I like a size; it's not big, but has more space then Lexus or BMW. We have 2004 Lexus, and driving on ocean or long trips is getting too tight with two/three kids. Our older doesn't go with us a lot.
A good name is ?soccer mom SUV?. I worry about reliability as any other Volvo (problem with electrical system)
