We did a lot of looking at the XC90, for the money, features, and power, we ended up the the Acura MDX. Haven't regretted it since. Volvo makes a great vehicle, so I don't think you can go wrong with it if the styling is to your liking.

I had two Volvo wagons and the second one (made under Ford ownership) was pretty much trouble free. I thought the interior quality was quite good. I then purchased a X5 4.4 which was a large step forward in road handling and performance.
All large Suv's get bad millage around town.

My Ride: 07' BMW 550i
I'm looking to replace 04 RX330 with over 120,000 miles on it. Newer RX model (new body) is still over $35,000, so I thought used low mileage Volvo is going to be a good alternative. Yes I look at MDX, I'm just afraid Honda's transmission is not last long. Remember Acura 3.2 TL? yes Volvo XC90 is also suffered with tranny failures but only on early production 2004-2005 (most reports). Also MDX is more like a truck type SUV, then crossover as XC90. Also it seems to me MDX doesn't have roof rack. How do I get Christmas tree to the house from farm?
Well I will look into MDX vs XC90 (price and futures).
Thanks

Depends on a year of the car. They made vast improvements between 2009 - 2011 to the interior. All and all is a very solid SUV mechanically.

If you buy a Volvo, you are putting the safety of your family in very good hands.
They still produce the safest cars on the road. (secondary safety that is)

My Ride: Titanium Silver 2008 550i 6MT. Matte black grille and numbers. Carbon roundels. Eibach springs and sway bars. Bilstein struts. UUC SSK. Smoked LED side markers.
The XC90 has an electronically controlled haldex coupling to the rear diff that is more tolerant of tire diameter differences.

We have owned 3 xc90, the first one when it came out in 2003. This is almost a ten year old car design now
I have only bought the 2.5T low pressure turbo's, currently own two 2006 XC90 with 46 and 66k, can easily be chipped
avoid T6
avoid 3.2 woefully underpowered.
avoid V8 pre 2006
angle gear continues to be a problem
wheel bearings require replacement
front end links are a problem
eats tires
suggest V8 2007 onwards, will not have rear load leveling suspension or pretensioners in rear seats except middle row outboard ones

We had an 06 and loved it. Was the 5 cylinder turbo awd and was plenty peppy for my wife. My sister has the v8 and it's great, nice engine but thirsty....but so was the 5. The earlier v6 tt were touchy and had issues. It's gettig dated but according to a sales guy i just spoke with, it' still selling well. Buy it!!!!
