Just purchased a 2006 530XI, did a oil change at dealer and was told that service reminder light does not reset after 186k?! Service light in continuing to tell to to change oil when just serviced and oil level is reading low on which it is not. How do I disable this service light and just go by mileage as it is not working and who ever coded the unit made a big mistake for people who take care of their cars in upper mileage. Currently has 203k and runs amazing 33 mpg on highway and drives like a new car.

lol. That's the first I've heard of that. I have a 05 and mine does just fine. May need to be updated if that's the case. Either way they could have corrected the issue. Part of what you paid for was them to reset the service reminder. It might be a sensor or wiring issue that's causing the issue. You'd have to get under it and check

Hi, thanks for your reply, how could I code out oil service light? Something I can do on my own or take it to Indy shop or dealer?

Might not affect M54 -- not sure.
Here is a bulletin...it's for an N52 E90, but I think it will apply probably to at least any N52:

There are threads here and there you can find hat might lay out the deactivation procedure in more detail.

Bmw engineering dept request from medford Oregon BMW dealer. Was quoted $285 from dealer to perform this procedure, even after I had oil change performed at dealer.

Just go to KOMBI and change the following then code it back. It's a 5 min job at most.
- cbs_stat_01H
- change arguement "anzeige" to "sperre"

If you find a shop/ forum member with a Launch (X431) scanner, they can reset the service intervals. And while they are are it, get them to shorten the oil change intervals as well.
