Oil level sensor

I know my 2006 530xiT has the same issue. Just did a recent oil change, along with fixing the source of oil leaks (valve cover gasket, oil filter / cooler gaskets, and oil separator and associated hoses). So when I got the "add a quart" message a couple weeks later, I was "a little concerned". What did I miss? Is it getting past the rings?
Then I remembered that designing an oil level sensor is apparently beyond BMW's ability, and relieved my anxiety. ;-)
I just ignore low oil level warnings until I get a few of them in a row.

Also, the oil level sensor is on the BSD bus along with several other devices. Could be one of them is messing things up.

Oil Level Sensor Vs Oil Condition Sensor
This is intended for those who do not know.
There are 2 types of oil level sensors for the E Series.
Oil Condition Sensor
This sensor is the one that measures the Oil Level in the iDrive.
This is the part no. 12617607910
Add this into RealOem and it will list all the models and versions compatible with this.
This sensor runs on the BSD line along with the following components
Glow plug control unit
Battery
Alternator
Then there is this sensor
Oil Level Sensor
This sensor has power and ground, pin 38 and 86 on the DDE (Diesel ECU).
This is the part no. 12617508003
Once again check with RealOem and see which models have this sensor fitted.
Now I have been beating myself over the internet, trying to figure out why the iDrive was not measuring the oil level. I have even ordered a new OEM Hella sensor, haven't fitted it yet. Was under the impression this will fix the issue and it will read the oil level.
However I was hugely mistaken.
Now the next question is can this be retrofitted, and what does that entail?
As in my case, the only models that came with this sensor were the LCI for my car which is 2005 535d M Sport.
Under TIS interface, BSD, only 3 components are listed
Alternator
Battery
Glow plug controller
But for LCI models there is an additional entry
Oil Condition Sensor.
So you guys who have been having issues with a new sensor not reading etc, after swapping it out etc. Possibly you have fitted the wrong sensor.
If anyone has any insight how to add the oil Condition Sensor utilising BSD please let me know.
