If you choose to have it changed, can you just use regular oil or does it have to be synthetic?

If you change have it changed, do you have to re-set anything so that you can still get your free 15K service?
Back in the days I use regular oil and you need to change those at around 5000km or 3 months they say.

Now I don't even get ask if I want synthetic or not they just put synthetic in. If you paying that much for your car already, why save a couple of bucks on oil? Even on my bike I use full-synthetic even tough regular or semi-synthetic is fine.

I've decided to do a 7.5k interval change.. unfortuantely my comptuer says I'm due at 18.9K miles (a bit too long for me)

I'm strugglgin to change the oil on my car...

where is the oil filter? Is it the cylindrical black cap at the top of the engine? the entire bottom is covered up...
I no longer have ramps.. so I've heard about sucking the oil out... anyone use this device?

hopefully I dont have to remove covering panels on the bottom..

Thanks

yes the filter is at the top of the engine at the front.
you will need a sucker to suck out the oil about 7L of it.

Do you need to suck out the oil when the drain plug is underneath the car

yes you need too if you are doing it your self.
the plug underneath is hard to get at you will need to jack the car up and then take offthe panel then you can take off the plug but when putting it back on do not over turn it cos itis very easy to snap off. I have seen it done alot of time.
Itis much quicker if you suck it from the top too and less messy

Why not use the oil specification that's in the owner's manual?

Or is it down to "expense"?

I still prefer to undo the drain plug to change oil that way. I use ramp instead of jack. This will get more used oil out of the pan than sucking the oil up.

I know this is the best way to do it, I used to do it on my UK cars,
but in HK there is no room to do that kind of thing at home, unless we have to take it to a workshop then use a ramp.
But saying this I dont know any of my frends that change the oil them selfs in HK.
I used to do it but not now its just cost too little to DIY now.
only $20us to change oil so why wast time, better off playing Xbox360 at home
