Had the exact same problem and was driving me crazy. :'(

Dealer found the cause was the antenna module under rear parcel shelf was rattling and needed to be insulated.

Quote from Work Order: "Found antenna module bolted to parcel shelf was rattling. Installed felt tape on module bracket and bolted back onto parcel shelf".

Good luck with your UDM!

I think I have same problem, but every time I take it to the dealer I could not replicate it. How did they fixed it? What was wrong?

Thanks!
Serge.

I didn't mention it to the dealer yet, its just to much of a hassle. Espacially after the 45 mile test drive and other crap.

I know this thread started about a month ago...but the problem just started for two days ago. So I thought of bringing this up, again.

Anyone has a manual for taking the rear set off? I think the noise is coming from either the seat bottom cushion, or the rear deck lid (under the rear window).

I forgot to mention that I had the problem when the car was only two months old. Dealer fixed it but the noise is back.

Thanks.

To remove the bottom seat cushion, you pull the two rings located under the seat on the left and right side. They are little plastic rings the are underneath the lip of the seat.

My rear shelf also rattles a lot, dealer believes it is due to some plastic clips which are broken, new ones have been ordered, being fitted next week ( as well as the air bag covers in the rear which they trashed when taking the shelf out )

I have a rattle from the back of mine too, going over bumps. But mine's an E61 (2006), so it isn't the shelf that's rattling. Don't think it's the back seat either. Almost sounds as though the tailgate's rattling, but I don't think it is. It isn't muffled as it would be if coming from under the seat or roof lining, and I can't find anything loose. Woe is me.

There's a buzz from the centre of the dash too, driving me crazy trying to locate it. Pushing and prodding, closing the vents, nothing makes any difference.

I'm not impressed with the build quality. Had my 9-5 Aero for six years from new, and not a single rattle or squeak, despite a flood that required a new engine, wiring loom, etc, when six months old.

The noise from the inside rear of the car is as l rattly as a bloody london taxi.
I've had the door cills changed that made no difference it seems to be coming from the rear sets and the parcel shelve, i'm taking it in on monday and told bmw i don't want it back until it's sorted out. Has any one else got this problem

I always say, " If the car is a 'rockin' don't come a 'knockin' "
