Hi Friends:

I went out about 1:00 p.m. last night for my first timed pass of the season. Well, no luck. Despite no brake torquing, I had no traction at all. I spun all the way through 1st no matter what I did (except see below). I managed a 13.85 @ about 105 and 5.5 (to 60). It was a less than 40 F, but I am at 1600'. Given these observations, my times and speed, adjusted for weather and to 500', would be a bit better than my raw data suggest, but still nothing to write home about.

I suspected that that Progman 23.whatever had turned my car loose again. I am glad to have my wheel spinability back, but now I'll have to work on harnessing the power again with DSC and DTC off. For fun, I tried one pass with both on. The car started out like it was running on four cylinders, but then when the power was released it started spinning--which I didn't expect. No more tries until after 1/10/07. I am looking forward to seeing if I can control the wheel spin enough to do any good.

I am back to wishing that I had stayed with 18" wheels, with light-weight BBS wheels, so I could run drag radials. I think I would have seen some exceptional times last night under these conditions.

Happy holidays to all.

Sounds like the kind of problems I have in cold weather. Now I am not sure the PS2 tires will help me.Under these conditions(less than 40F) I get best results by leaving the nannies on and rolling into the throtttle slowly.I have tried a couple of runs recently, but I need to practice my method again.I am now using a 9" rollout to more closely imitate the drag strip timers.I recorded 0-60 in 5.15 & 5.20 with some intrusion by the nannies.I have to relearn my launch methods from summer to winter in order to get best times. When I get the launch perfect I get no wheelspin and no intrusion by the nannies and 0-60 in less than 5 secs.
Sounds like your low end power is now better than ever Zman. With proper launch I am sure you will get under 5 secs 0-60 raw numbers.

Right on bro, except for the raw < 5.0 part. I think the altitude is too much of problem. Still, in the old days I had a few less than 5.1 as I recall. I think I had a 5.09.

Znod,
A little bit off topic but have you read the 545i vs 335 thread? http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=34699

Go to the e90post link in the thread. Quite amusing.

PS2s running in cold weather are probably going to run like Flintstones - hard as a rock. The rubber compound on any high performance summer tire is not going to get much grip at temps under 40. Try some winter shoes ... they will feel like bubble gum at those temps.

Considering the rubber handicap, those are nice times.

Thanks. But, I have done much better in the winter with the same tires. One problem that I didn't mention before is that I had just aired them up higher than usual because of a trip we begin on Friday. I'll let some air out of the rears for my next outing.
