I feel this option would be useful in my area of the country where we have alot of deer along the roads in the evening and at night.

You mean near/mid IR, right?
No I ment far... unless whatever i read was wrong... it said they looked into both and if they used Near IR they had to have another light source to be able to see 300m ahead. and with another light source it'll be another thing to break and it wasnt reacting correctly with on comming lights. With Far IR they didnt need another light source and it worked well. *shrugs* I dunno.

Is it on your HUD or the iDrive screen ... I'm assuming your HUD because it would be a little silly being on your iDrive?

I have only had my car a couple of weeks and I have found it very useful already.

Its far infrared technology. (FIR)

You don't need high beams on at all. In fact you don't need lights on at all when the car is stationary. When moving you need the low beams on. It only appears on the I drive screen. Not on the HUD. The view becomes confusing on the HUD because you are seeing an image layed over the actual view from a different angle. Thats why they did it only on idrive.

I am particularly worried about having to change focus to see what's ahead and then turn back trying to identify and avoid it. I think BMW should consider the way it's been done on the Merc, have an LCD insert within the speedometer that will project the Night Vision, it could as well be used for other display such as vehicles hourney information...
