it goes back to the early 20s, just after the first world war when racing started becoming much more important. it's how the countries automakers defined themselves. thus, every country had its own color. French = blue, England = Green, Italy = Red, Germany = Silver. check this out:

silver silver silver!!! black only looks good when its super clean, and i never stays clean for more than a few days. had a black car once, never again, just my 2 cents.
