Hello everybody,

This is my very first post to the forum, as the proud new owner of my very first BMW -- 2004 545i sport, Orient Blue on Black. And she's truly a lovely machine.

Here's my tip: The navigation DVD drive can also serve as a CD player, giving you a de facto two disc CD changer for those times you're willing to live without nav. Not very useful once my iPod interface is installed Friday, but an interesting "why the hell not?" feature, nonetheless.

I am picking up an ED 550 6MT in a couple of weeks (US spec) and was wondering if there is any kind of indicator in the dash area that proposes an "optimum" gear to be in.... Its not something I would use much, just curious to know how to do this.....

Cheers,
Roland Kelly

On the 08 model, in the front passenger seat dash cabinet, theres a portable rechargeable flash light and a hidden car key compartment if you guys peek inside. Just sharing my knowledge in case some of you didn't notice this

I had my car a couple of months before I figured this one out:

When cancelling blinker, push in the same direction as you did to set the blinker, as if you were using the lane-change feature. Maybe that's in the FM, but to me this makes it easier to cancel than hunting for the click in the opposite direction. My .02c

2008 535i Space Grey, comfort access, Multi-contour seats, heated front seats, PP, shades, NAV, Sirius,
holy crap...been over 4 years. that is how you cancel the blinkers?? i have been using the automatic 3 flashes all time since i kept
overshooting it when turning the blinker off. people look at me as if i'm not normal!
aren't the dealer suppose to tell us that before driving off the lot?

Haha, what was the last BMW that did NOT have the flashlight in the glovebox?

Love the anti-carjack (running engine without the key in the car (anymore)).

the cycle through the ventilation modes does not work on my e60 though.

for those who dare (and a lot of space); hit the DSC button once to reduce it's working - or to increase the margins you can make errors in - hit it twice to turn it off completely. If you are confident to hand over control to the software, you can try this. Just take a sharp turn, floor the accellerator and keep your foot here. Only steer in the direction you want the car to go and it corrects itself. It will take more sideways space to regain control so do this only if you have enough tarmac around you.
You'll probably release the accellerator in an instinctive reaction the first few times you try this. Basically you then make it the software more difficult.

Best tried in wet conditions: reduces tyre wear and requires less high speed to experiment.

enjoy.

2005 E60 does not have that flashlight standard. nor the 12v plug in the passenger footwell. it does have the emergency key holder.

It depends which country you are in. Some do, some don't. But as this is a "neat tricks" thread we don't need to go in to detail - other than just to say, you MIGHT have one, go and check!

To turn DSC off completely, you don't press the button twice, you hold it in for a period of time until the DSC off warning comes on...
