Hi Art.
They would have changed the radio to a professional unit but the car would not accept it.

I need to understand more about what you said about being able to have MP3 even with a business radio but with the correct programing.

The dealer's information from BMW AG is that no business radio is able to read an MP3 CD, it is a hardware restriction.

All of you that have Bussines Radio with Nav, or Professional with or without Nav, can go to your dealer to repro the software and can read MP3.
I wouldn't say everyone can go do it. Here's the results of my efforts:

My car was built Jan 2004 and has Pro Navigation. Took it in for 20.02 CIP Update and MP3 Retrofit programming. They said it does not work! When tested, said iDrive shows MP3 grayed out, but it won't play MP3s. They also took a MP3 CD out of a car that does play MP3s and put it in mine and it still doesn't work.

I know the MP3 service bulletin says the retrofit only works for March 2005 - Sept 2005 cars, but several people have reported MP3 working with build dates before that.

Any MP3 success stories on pre March 2004 builds or is the cutoff March 2004 because of newer versions of the CCC computer?

My car is Nov 06 built, and it can play mp3 CD in sub folders, although haven't try DVD format. One annoying thing is the song name listed in all caps with underscores; doesn't look pretty

Time Traveler?? "Nov '06"

The truth is that I don't know what to think about. Reading forums in Spain and Italy one can think that this is just a street story that everybody says what they have heard and nobody really knows anything. Don't you think the same? What I really know is that up to now, to repro the Business Radio without Nav is impossible, however Prof radio with or without Nav and Business Radio with Business Nav, the repro is available. That's what my dealer told me last Monday.
Anyway, I'm waiting for a calling from BMW Espa?a, and I hope they give me one solution: Radio changing (around $237 / 200?) because I give my old radio; or AUX-IN ($158 / 133?) We've to wait!
Luck everybody obssed with MPthree playback! (Me included, of course)

Hi Art,

first of all: There is NO bus radio WITH nav!!!

Here is what is possible:

radio bus / no nav
radio pro / no nav
radio pro / bus nav
radio pro / pro nav

Now:

E60's built before March 2005 are not able to get MP3 playback!
BUT: You can let the dealer try to activate it. If he can activate MP3 playback, you will experience problems!! MP3 playback is not possible with a fully functional nav pro, or the nav pro is working correct and the MP3 is not. Anyways: In the most cases, MP3 can't even be activated on E60's built before March 2005!

Just the facts...

MP3 retrofit completed on my 03/04 build with nav, works great, no charge upgraded to 20.01. SA took care of it while in for regular service.

MP3 and Nav Pro are working correctly on my 530 D build in 08/04 . Retrofit at no cost in two times one to go to 20.01 and second time to activate MP3 (I was the first to ask him here in Toulouse and he didn't know that a special activation was needed).

You are right ICEMAN, it's been a mistake. I wanted to say Prof Radio with Business Nav. Sorry.

Hi,

I have started a new topic on this

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=22735

I was told by BMW belgium that is would not be possible to
have MP3 playback on a Prof RADIO+NAV if you have a CD-Changer....
Is there anyone that has the same config like me and that CAN play mp3s ?
My config:

(bought on 2004-Sep)
* Prof RADIO + GPS (maps)
* Logic7
* 6 CD-Changer

Is would be a joke if what they said was true and I dont mind raising a huge stink if it is true..
I mean, when I bought my car, I bought it thinking I would have a car that can play MP3's
and for the 63000 Euros I spent on it you'd think it would be possible, right ?

Quick Reply: mp3 playback
