Well as long as your car is still in warranty then it wont cost you anything, as the service bulletin clearly states this is to be cover under warranty. As a matter of fact my dealership gave me a free loaner as well.
May I trouble somebody to post the link the service bulletin indicating details regarding the flash service for making the cd-player read MP3s? My dealership/service center has never heard of this before! Please advise.

Scroll down a bit and you'll see the service bulletin

I don't have Navi either on the 06 525I. I'm guessing this could mean we're out of luck.
(Still waiting on dealer service center to get back to me.)

Look at post #30, that should clarify things for you all. If its too expensive for you to get the Ipod adapter, you can always get an auxillary input.

If I get the auxiliary port, would you be able to tell me if there is enough space on the corners for the cable to hang out of the glove compartment with the door shut? The problem I see with the aux port is that my ipod is going to have to sit in the glove compartment the entire time and I'll have to open/close the glove compartment daily to switch it on or off! (Kind of annoying!) So I'm thinking if I can plug in an aux cable to the port and then let it hang out, I'm hoping I can shut the glove compartment door without squeezing the cable too much or without adding too much resistance to the compartment door lock.

(I'm pretty sure I've never seen a "flat" aux cable before or that would solve my issue for sure!)

Thoughts anyone?

I would compare/contrast the costs of getting an ipod adapter. It hides away in the glove box and you can control everything from your idrive.
