Hi. My copy also worked with DVD+R. Worked equally well in a friend's mini.

Be careful , copying this DVD and using it in another car is illegal , do not get the Forum into trouble.

We only asked about copying in case local dealership is ripping us and making extra profit by selling it (if he is supposed to give it for free)
During the time I lived in the US I had an Audi and they were obligated to give me the local map for free. Other areas I had to purchase
My friend bought C-class 240 and he got a local map for free.
Another friend bought an ML-class 350 and got the DVD for free.
I also know two other people who bought BMWs (X5 - 3 series) and they got their maps for free.

Of course copying it is illegal if the dealer is supposed to sell it. But the same dealer started giving maps for free to 7-series owners, now they are selling them.
That's why I was looking for some statement from BMW stating that the DVD is included.

Desert530,

Don't get me wrong I was not saying you would do that, in the UK the disc is free (although it will be included somewhere on the invoice price) , it just seems strange that you buy Sat. Nav and then BMW ask you to pay extra for the software. Bit like the wheels being an optional extra.

I think we have to pay if we want a newer version, but the road progarm in the UK is so slow we could use one about 10 years old and still get there (slowly).

Steve:
i'm using the 2004/1 Business dvd - which doesn't know about the m6 toll, which you'd think it should do...

but it really SHOULD know about London congestion charging: it has been around long enough.

do you (or anyone) have a version that covers the congestion charging area?

See they just released the DVD now, there are many of us E60 owners waiting for it. And they never mentioned that we would have to purchase it, everyone assumed that it will be for free since they were giving the maps to the 7-series for free as well.
I'm waiting for the branch manager to come back from the UK, they said he might make an exception for you if you talk to him.
So i'm keeping my fingers crossed for now.

The guys at Navteq can't kno weverything, since there are too many changes on the roads.
But you can send them this information and then they'll update it for the next version. Check out their website for contact infos and the feedback form.
If everybody would send them update infos their software would become nearly perfect.
