Hey everyone,
The E60's navigation CD/DVD for our region just came out last month, it was delayed for some reason. Of course, having paid a good amount of money for your car which has a navigation system you expect the dealer to give me the CD/DVD for free. But apparently my dealer now says, you have to buy it. And it will cost you $800. I got very angry and upset, they claim it is expensive becuase it covers the whole Arabian Gulf region.
My question is? can he do that or does BMW has a statement somewhere (manual or website) saying that a CD/DVD map will be provided with the car. If so please let me know so I can take it and stick it to their face first thing tomorrow morning.

In Sweden it says in the options list that the DVD is NOT included in the Nav price, unfortunately.

The DVD for Europe will cost appr. USD 500.

It is copy protected material, so the dealer/mfr has to pay for the work others have done (e.g. the data supplier - which is NOT part of BMW). In some regions the first disc is free. However it's up to each market region to determine if this will be the case. If your dealer doesn't move on this, I would suggest letting BMW Saudi Arabia know that this isn't a positive move. You could look for the supplier (assuming Navteq possibly, but there could be someone else for the Arabian Gulf region) and order directly from them. Those of us who do that in the US and Europe normally get it that way than from BMW parts which can charge more.

Doesn't say included or excluded in Germany, but everybody who orders nav gets the DVD for free.
But it's not advertised like that, it's just common sense.

I know it is common sense, I will try to find out what company they are dealing with. I was there the other day and I told them I mean business, the salesman asked me to wait for the branch manager to come back from his vacation then MAYBE he will make an exception for my case if talked to him.

Khalid,
Since you?re in Khobar, I believe it is easier for you to check how much is the Nav cd in Bahrain. I'm sure that this was in your mind or maybe you've checked already.
plz if you do/did so, update us.

salam,

this is lame: it is intended to be included -- but i've lived in the GUlf for 3 years and, simply, they'll rip you off every change that they get

The DVD is copiable. I have Win XP using Nero with Pengo media DVD-R.
Sony and Fuji media didn't work well with the car.
