I start browsing around and it just seems like every other thread is about some problem with these cars. FUCK! Did I make a mistake in choosing this car or what? It's an '05 and has 30k miles, so it's out of warranty but not been driven as much as your average car. What say you fellow e60 owners?

By the way, I just joined this forum and this is my first post. Nice to meet all of you and hopefully (if I keep the car) I'll be an active member of this online community.
I bought my 545 2 years ago with 23K on it. I've had no issues except one speeding ticket Can't believe how much I still look forward to driving her every morning after 2 years, you're going to love it!

I agree that driving it is fun.
But once you are experiening problems like the o-ring issue you will instantly lose all of the fun you ever had over the huge bill.

I know there are lot of people here wanting to say this...so I'll go ahead and say it...NOW YOU KNOW HOW THOSE OF US WITH THE 535i TURBO ENGINE FEEL!! I don't think there is a single thread on here, about any subject, that involves the 535i, that does not have some mention of "beware of the HPFP...it's gonna get you!" Having said that...I guess I do understand why it happens. It usually the people who have actually HAD the issues that leave those messages...I figure it's a sort of "venting" to others who can "appreciate" their position...which in fact, most of us here can. But for those of us who have NOT had the problem...it almost becomes annoying to KEEP hearing the same negative story over and over about OUR cars. Sooooo...I'm just trying to understand BOTH sides of the thing and help everybody get along........oh yeah......and I think we all know as well, that it's the "peacemaker" (me in this case) that usually gets shot...

Isn't a forum exactly for that, discussing and gaining experience?

Again: Buyer beware!
Especially when you know how you get treated by BMW!!!
Well let's keep this link alive, for any new updates.
I wonder if the CPO will cover this?

I have had my 05 545 over 18 months and I love it.

Yes I did have the battery and transmission replaced under warranty but it has been a great car.

ok, so i6 engines are having HPFP issues, v8's have o-ring issues, next time I will look for v12. That should solve the problem : )

all this is scary of course but the best thing to do is drive and don't worry. same as if you see a lot of people with HIV doesn't mean you will get one. Enjoy the car while it's good and deal with problem if it comes up. Less stress this way. I already accepted the car as it is, and decided to just drive and enjoy..OP should probably do the same since he just got a new car

tranny replaced at this stage and it's a good car? these are the types of things that make me think i made the wrong choice. would you still consider this a
"great car" if that didn't happen under warranty?

I looked at the repair procedure noted in this thread for that leaky tube. it was very ingenious. If you notice it seems only an issue with the older models. I bet that they replaced the rubber with viton and all is well.
Either way you have a great car - quit going negative and get out and enjoy.
When the weather warms you will feel better. Remember that no matter what car you get or what you paid, someone always (tells you )that they got a better deal.
Also no matter what, the govt would have taken your money anyhow!!!

...
NO!

They didn't!

And this problem is only existing once a car is five to six years old, since the o-ring doesn't fail earlier, that's its lifespan!
So, therefore, you only see this problem on "older" cars, but it exists on all V8's, since BMW has not yet solved the issue!
