It has nothing do with it!
It is a simple design fault that BMW ignores.
I take it that this pipe is only found in the N62B44 & N62B48? Which would lead to your conclusion of a design fault.

So if your assertion is correct we should expect to see 645, 650, X5 4.4 & 4.8 with the same problem in the coming years.

I have read every post here. So, I want to know three things:

1. Where can I buy this new aftermarket pipe?
2. Does this site have a DIY video or write up on how to replace the pipe?
3. What attorney is handling the class action lawsuit?

Thanks very large! Jim

I thought I read that there was already a class action suit in progress. Did I not read that?

I see that now we are talking about DIY and $800 I think I will live if it happens to me still loving my E60!

And I almost totaled my 545i and killed myself reading this post

Interesting post from the O-ring on.

Just so happens my warranty expired last week and I'm thinking about whether I made the right decision in not getting it.
My problem is the highest margin product for the auto company the EW. I probably could get an extended warranty for the same price quoted by my dealer, like $3,500. My 550 has been the most reliable car I've owned over 4 years.

I'm leaning to no EW. Why? We haven't seen major problems as reported on this site.
Has there been 1 o-ring failure on the E60 forum and/or say on bimmerfest? I would imagine the best place to
check about the o-ring is on a 7 series board.

Iceman, why don't you ask your Munich insider at BMW this. What is the failure rate? 1 in 100 or 1 in 10. Your
posts seem to suggest its just inevitable.

I'm not wishing myself bad luck but my gut says small problem. If its widespread and damaging to BMW, they
will do a recall. All the 545s breaking down this year will be a huge PR nightmare. Should be interesting.

two weeks ago I would have said no...but now that my I drive is blank(for two weeks ) i'd say maybe...i have a 04
545, has been trouble free for two and a half years...I'm afraid to take it in to dealer, as i'm not in the mood to plunk down 1k or more...also, the depreciation on these cars is ridiculous. but....it is an absolute joy to drive.
btw..I took car to an independent mechanic, he was unable to diagnose the problem. If you can afford these cars, they are awesome, but i hate the idrive, tires are very expensive, and computer/electronic problems are bound to crop up over the lifespan of the car.

...
As I said, I have talked to a couple guys in Munich...
I know of MANY with this problem that post on boards...
If you check Bimmerfest and Bimmerforums you will find enough info to get scared!

As I said, the 5 series is just about old enough so we will see many more with this problem...
