Once a V8 engine is about 5 years old you can expect a small problem which cost BIG bucks to get fixed.
Those V8 engines are having a design fault.

I'd like to know what you mean? I missed this somewhere.

I get buyer's remorse as well. But remember, this forum pretty much represents 1-3% of the population who drive a 5-series (as I'm sure many owners don't know what an online forum is or that one even exists for the E60). And many people come here to just post and ask questions about problems they are having, big or small. If you had everyone post about how great their car has been, this place would be flooded senseless.

Not to scare you but I bought my car with 70k on the clock and after 2k miles of driving I found that I have a coolant leak. I was quoted by the stealer $400 in repairs. Not that bad and considering you could knock off a good $100-$200 if you took it to an indy. This is one of the common problems and should only come up once in a blue moon. Other than that this car has rarely had any problems in the past (I knew the previous owner). Not too shabby for any car around 70k miles! Also, buy some mods and consider that your rainy day fund . If you run into a problem, fix your car, sell a mod, and presto!

I am also interested in this issue. I have my 545 for almost 3 years now. I have not had any big issues until now with an engine. I would buy an extended warranty though. If You can't do much by Yourself, if anything happens to BMW You are anding up with (at least) $500 bill. Trust me even OEM battery for 545 I wa quoted 299+ tax and getting anything else than genuine one might get You a fault codes.

the two year extended warranty is around $2700, which is cheap if there is a major failure, but expensive if I end up with only one issue of $1k or something. maybe there's a company out there that has dirt cheap warranties, but the few i've looked at are all around the same price.
