I have this irritating sound from the steering wheel itself when I turn it in big turns. It is probably something coming in contact which should not or maybe only some kond of oil is needed.

This is a periodic problem - sometimes there is no sound at all even when I make big turns.

Does anyone know if this requires a huge (and expensive :'( ) repair or not?

I had this grinding noise as well about a year ago...they replaced the steering wheel under warranty. No problem since.

Hi

I have had the same problem and for the moment no sound at all. You can find something under topic "squeeking steering" which I opened maybe a couple of months ago.

Well I have no warranty (bought the car in Germany and since Norway is not a EU member, the warranty is no longer valid  ). That's why I wonder how expensive the operation is.

I bought my car in Germany and my local norwegian BMW dealer says this has nothing to do with EU, that`s BS, they`re checking my steering tomorrow as this is said to be a known problem which is fixed under warranty.
