I don't know what dealer you're using but I'm surprised that they didn't follow one of the golden rules of software updating...

BMW says you should always connect a battery charger to the car while performing an update so that this exact scenario does not occur!
In my haste, he did mention that they had a trickle charger attached but, it some how turned off and the battery drained. The dealership is Westchester BMW, I know they are owned by corporate so no bending of the rules, right???

I just got the trickle chargers today ,net $50, it's cheap insurance just in case. But for what these cars cost you really do have to scratch your head..................

im in the same boat as you. AND Boy IM ANNOYED. Second time i was in for service and there is no difference. The car battery was dead the day i got it back. Very frustrating, im going to call my SA Monday and see if they can figure out what the problem is. The thing that annoys me is the SA told me the car is sleeping after 15mins and when i got it back it still wasn't falling asleep until 2-3hrs.

Here is an update: I finally got my car back on Friday. No issue with relaoding the latest CIP and the battery tested good so I was on my way. Drove my car Fri, Sat and Sun.....I was at my destination on Sunday and had to move my car....low and behold.....increased battery discharge.....

Do I go back to the dealer? or just by a trickle charger that WestCoast550 recommended to? Recommendations anyone?

Unfortunately I have no words of wisdom to offer...

It's a shame the dealer cannot isolate what the issue is, because there is clearly a problem somewhere! In both my '04 454 and my '08 550, I leave the V1 cable plugged into the ashtray and my phone charger plugged into the back of the center console and have never had this battery issue. And that includes leaving the car for a week plus while in travelling overseas!

Persist, as mentioned earlier I had mine in 3 times, 1st time it was reported fixed, 2nd time I was told to modify the way I used the car (I listened to the radio without the engine being on!!!) , 3rd time they found the damaged earth strap, which actually fixed the car.

The trickle charger is a good idea to address the symptom but not fix the problem.

Thanks. My SA called me a little while ago just to do a follow-up call and I told him that it happened again. I will mention about the earth strap and see what he says.

I will probably by the charger for a just in case.
