All was well until the iDrive screen went blank yesturday on my way home from work. No Audio, Communication, Navigation, or Climate control menu. I pulled the following fault codes below:

Instrument cluster / Kombiinstrument
Fault: Terminal shutdown
Code: A559
Fault: Debug Info Combi
Code: A557
Fault: Phone failure
Code: A554
Central info display / Zentrales Display
Fault: Central control timeout
Code: A468
Fault: CID failure
Code: A46D
Fault: Communication CAN Low
Code: E5C4
Do i have to replace the whole unit? Please help... very frustrated

There are numerous threads about this on the different forums.
- My I-drive went blank and started draining my battery from its cooling fan continuously running so I disconnected the I-drive completely.
- You can buy a used CCC (i-drive)
- You can buy a remanufactured unit
- Replace the faulty drive
- Upgrade to a newer model version
I'm solving other problems at the moment but have it on my list to either upgrade or replace the faulty drive. I'm not going to a buy a remanufactured CCC just so it can fail again in the near future. I'm no expert on this and I'm assuming you have a CCC not a CIC or newer I-drive version.

If there is actually a can comms fault, the idrive won't switch on.
Undo the screen (two screws), undo the power connector and measure for Voltage there. (There's 4 wires, you've got to figure out which one is correct).
Also undo the first aid kit in the trunk and read the schematic for fuses

Found quarter in DVD slot
Problem solved... There was a quarter dangling inside CCC unit!!! Apparently, someone (my 2 year old son) put a quarter into the DVD slot. Its been in there for a while. I must of took a sharp turn which made the coin short out the unit internally. The coin was removed, everything is back to normal. And here i was talking bad about a flaky BMW CCC unit!!
Moral of the story, do not leave any coins in your coin tray if you have a 2 year old!!! All this money and time spent just for a quarter!!

LOL...
Reminds me of a VCR we had about 25 years ago. Thing stopped working. Took it to a technician where I worked that did VCR repair on the side. He gave it back to me a couple days later along with a couple of large-ish flash cards. My kid had stuff them inside the unit and somehow it took a tape in anyway, but got munged up.
