TMC = Traffic Message Control which collects traffic information from FM-radio stations, and shows it on your map.
The "T" indicates, that the radio have a radio station on one of the tuners, which send out traffic related information. If it shows "TP" you have activated the traffic programme function: this means the radio will stop the the CD if you receive a Traffic bulletin.

hey i know this isn't exactly the point of this post, but i have 2 questions:
1. it looks like your nav is a bit more 3-D than my 2007 530i. like you are looking across a horizon, whereas my view is straight down like on a regular map. how did you get it to look like that? i have the latest 2010 nav dvd.
2. is there anyway to use your iphone 3gs in bluetooth and simultaneously listen to it via your AUX input? the dealer told me that was impossible.

Not sure about the answer to question 2, but I would think if you connect the 3GS earphone output to your 'AUX IN' on your car, then it will play your music whilst still connected to the car via Bluetooth as the Bluetooth profile does not allow for any music to pass over to the car. I connect my iPhone 4 (and previous iphones) only via Bluetooth so I shall try connecting the lead this weekend and see what happens

Melv,
You have to clear the missed calls from iDrive(in the "missed calls" section of phone menu of the iDrive), not just missed calls from the phone itself, in order to make the phone symbol go away. You clear the calls out of iDrive simply by viewing the list, at least that's how I always do it.

E60SIM you are absoultely right !! Now that I have called the car with my iphone connected it does indeed bring up the other little symbol of a mobile phone. There in solving one little mystery, however interestingly now that it is there, it does not go away even after the phone has been cleared of missed calls which explains why it took a while to appear but then stayed there. Bizzare !!
Do you know what any of the other symbols mean along the bottom edge of the screen??

TI+ is traffic information, which means that your car is receiving radio-based info. for the RTTI (real time traffic information) part of the nav. system. But, in US LCI cars the TI+ was just changed to simply display TI. Oddly enough, when I changed the language of my car to Spanish, it displayed TI+.
