Hey guys,

Need some help. I was installing a custom iDrive multimedia unit for which I tapped into the CAN connector cables and everything was running ok except the display wasn't clear. Then I decided to completely removed the tapped wires and restore to stock, and buy a better plug-n-play kit.

The problem now is that when I put everything together my iDrive doesn't work. There is no display, and the center knob cannot control anything. Checked the pins and they are not bent or anything. I checked the CAN connector today with a multimeter and there is no power coming in any of the wires. I tried to look into the fusebox but couldn't find a specific fuse on the diagram that would cause this. Nevertheless, the audio and bluetooth are all working.

Does anyone here have any ideas on how to proceed?

My guess is that I might have touched some bare cables while soldering, didn't do it intentionally at all. Or might have pulled a cable really tight.

Today morning, I also saw two messages on my screen, which went away soon after and an exclamation mark remains. The pictures are attached.

Really dread going to a dealer to get this fixed - out of warranty.

Yikes! I would say test both poles of all your fuses with the multimeter to ensure none are blown despite what the diagram says. maybe you'll get lucky and simply have a blown fuse... or maybe not..

the second warning pic looks crazy.. like your car is up on a lift.. sorry to hear the news, hope you get it resolved.. makes me have second thoughts on messing with the iDrive to get the back-up camera / multimedia mod..

Fuse F64 (production up to 09/2005) or F79 (production after 09/2005) supplies the idrive display.
10AMP located in the rear fuse block.

However, if the K_CAN lines are shorted then none of the other devices on the chain will work. This sounds like the problem since the OP tapped the K_CAN lines from the CCC/MASK. Those CAN BUS lines are considered the K_CAN body and just about every component is connected to it.

This isn't an Econo-box - a fuse will not be the problem.

Check that the K_CAN lines are not damaged/shorted from where they were tapped.
