The TFT on my HUD is loose and no longer level and at the correct height. It moves all over when I use the adjuster (no longer just up and down). I did manage to tweak it to a usable position without the back light shinning around the edges, but it is still not level and it is a bit low. Has anyone else seen this problem? I've considered taking the dash all apart to get at the HUD box, but I am not sure I could repair it once I got it out. Has anyone opened up a HUD and corrected this problem? A replacement unit is too expensive ($3+K) considering the age of the car.

Probably need to remove your idrive screen and speedo clocks to access it and see what's happening

ahh I thought you meant you used the settings in the idrive to adjust it. Look on ebay, there's a few cheap ones listed over here in the UK maybe it's the same over there. Only a hundred or two £ as well...

I finally made the effort and disassembled the entire dashboard, removed the HUD, and fixed it. It wasn't as difficult as I expected, just terribly time consuming. Three hours to take it apart and another three to put it all all back together. The problem with the HUD was really easy to deal with. The TFT panel that displays the data that is projected floats in a frame so that it's angle can be adjusted. The early versions of the HUD had no means of retaining the TFT panel in the frame other than a little tension from the ribbon cable that feeds data to it. Later versions had a small tab that kept it from slipping out of the frame. I simulated that using some HVAC metallic tape that is good up to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Problem solved and I have my HUD back
