I think the tools needed aren't in the regular parts system. They're part of the "special tools" that are available to dealerships and service centers. It's probably possible to order them but it's probably not worth it since this adjustment isn't likely to be something you'd do often...

Hi Rudy,
The document made reference to a Lopsided HUD issue, and this is the exact problem I have. The image is displaced up-side-down. Would you know how to resolve this or where may I find a solution? Thanks, Eric

There are some older posts by Rudy about HUD with attachments. Have you looked at those? Could be that adjustment cable behind the iDive screen came loose?? That seems to have something to do with adjusting the HUD. I wouldn't think it can make it go 180 degrees, but it might be worth taking out the iDrive screen and inspecting that adjustment cable.
I have tried Rudy's method and adjusted the soft shaft behind the iDrive screen. It only move the screen little bit but no way near enough to correct the 180 degree rotation.
I have also tried to reset the iDrive (power, eject, and eject).
And resetting the iDrive using the 5 digital VIN addition method.
Took it to an auto electrician and he connect a diagnostic kit to the OBD and the reading was a connection error with the HUD. It was able to read the rest of the car ok.
Finally, in Rudy's document. It made reference to the lopsided HUD issue but said it will be described separately. So I guess BMW must have came across this problem previously.
cheers, Eric

I haven't looked at the construction of the HUD, but a couple of Physics things come to mind.
Could the upside down image be a reflection of the real image which is mis-projected somewhere else? Think of a lake with a reflection of the surroundings. Could the real image be getting projected somewhere really high, for example, and you are seeing the upside down reflection of that?
Another thing could be some internal optical component that has fallen away. Like in old style cameras.
