We went to see an E60 and I was behind the wheel playing with the indicator stalks and stuff. Then as we were driving away I looked through the dealer window and the left hand side AEs were on, I assume these are the parking lights. I hope I didnt cause a flat battery!

They dont shut off when you switch the indicator up or down they stay on. At least i know ive done it and its stayed on overnight. If you press the highbeam towards yourself it will stay on for a good 30 seconds

Parking lights are different from the iDrive settable Home lights. I do not think the Parking lights ever go off, much light the hazard lights. However the computer may choose to switch them off if the battery level becomes critical. Most people don't even know of this Parking light feature.

The parking lights, whether they're switched on with the light switch (all four corners) or with the turn signal stalk (only two corners) do, in fact, shut off automatically....when the battery dies! They are considered critical electrical consumers so they will never be turned off by the car to save the battery.

Forever. I once mistakenly hit the turn signal lever upon exiting in bright daylight and the left side was lit up for 10 hours on my old E46. Never noticed it until the sun started going down. It was on until I moved the turn signal lever to the center.
