I have an E60 May 2005 (Navi Pro with DVD), and I 'm planning to update the iDrive software in order to make it able play mp3, the only thing is that the official dealer here in Riga can't guarantee that all of the blocks will work after the work. At the other hand some says that ussually this faults occured with the oldest models lik E60 03' and 04'.
Does anyone know anything on how the age of the car influence the result? And does it worth to take this risk?
BTW update will cost me 210EUROS without any guarantee (that's ridiculous)

Thanks in advance, any help will be appreciated.

isnt it strange??
why should i need to update i drive? the cars new prive was nearly 60000 euro and cant play mp3?????? i got my 525 from 2005 just now a week. And Ii quite annoyed that my car cant play mp3 or even have a aux jack. a friend of me got a opel(vauxhal) vectra from 2005 and he got mp3 standard in his car.!!!!!!!! damn and that is an opel. It is that other things are so damn well in this car els ei would change it. I hate this idrive and its software and hardware. I am thinking just to buy a new standard radio with usb mp3 ipod function on it. but then i got no adapter to fit it nicely in the console. very stupid move of bmw to be uncompatible with the world standards.

Yup... quite annoyed about no mp3 in my car too. early 2005. seriously...

BMW is ahead of the game in some things and very behind in others... if you buy a E60 now... 2008 you'll have all the goodies... they should have made it standard from the get go.

It is possible to buy the new goodies inur 2005 model but then u have to pay about 2200 euro(sweden) for the gear and then u need to pay to get the stuff installed in ur car. so a new extra old style car radio is still a cheaper and maybe better option.

Always write down your radio stations. Sometime they get blown away with the upgrade.

So far since my update, my IDRIVE has rebooted/crashed about 8 times. Meaning once i started my car there was a blank screen. Turn off car wait a few minutes and restart, comes back up. I need to take it back to the dealer to get checked out. Its really annoying.

i was also planning to update my progman to v26.2 (which is currently the latest version here in malaysia) to make multi function button on the steering wheel (set for 'next entertainment source') scrolling include aux input...but after reading all the problems that would probably occur, i think i'll stick to my current version of progman v24.2... for the time being, i haven't had any problems whatsoever...

Updating software is not dangerouse. But in Poland (I'm from Poland) you paid 400 PLN + 400PLN for every drivers who disapointed diuring programming(about 40 drivers is in E60). That's why I go to Germany and paid only 65 Euro for new software (without any added money).

+1 I've just had the same thing (blank screen) happen to me after an update. On the plus side I can now play mp3 CD's and the update seems to have cured an intermittent PDC fault I had beforehand.

I have a problem with the eyebrows of the lights. They don't work and at the dealer's they told me they have to upgrade the soft. Other than that my car is fine and I am afraid that by upgrading other problems will apear. Any advices? It a 520i may 2004.
