the problem is not whether the wife would approve but the fact that we both drive the car and in fact she drives it more than I do. so I need to make sure its safe for her and the cars current set up is a good compromise. its fairly neutral during our last outing. I guess it would understeer on the limit but this is what I want, for her. fair enough, lowering will in general improve things regardless. the reason I couldnt go faster last time on the uphill section (in fact, I backed off a little in the middle) however was more to do the other reasons that mikehk mentioned
the first priority for me is ought to be the brakes, its really too soft too weak for a 1500+kg car. I just dont see why I would make my car faster if I couldnt stop.
re SB, I have to admit that I dont have the skills of the foot god (if you have watched the last few episodes of initial D, you will know what I mean). S mode is all I need for now.
ps. yes, pingy did forward through and its a deal.

there are a lot of debats on whether after market pulley mod will cause any damage. from what I understand, it shouldnt cause any immediate ones (but at your own risk obviously). noticed the 2nd post in the link I sent out was an extract from steve dina. they have been in bmw mod biz for 29 years and have v serious mod products for the m5 engine:

I think they know what they are doing.

OK, I will check with him on Monday. In fact he called me yesterday and asked me to leave the car there for a few days to try out the crank pulley mod. After reading all of the above, I have some doubt on the reliability. Like what you said I don't want my car towed back to SF while driving. ![Think](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/think.gif)

hi deriffic
one step at a time (sorry guys, I am just too conservative when it comes to mods). believe I would need 18" rims as well, this as a complete package would be too big of a jump plus 6 pistons is a little OTT for a 323 for me. many thx and appreciate the info though.

Hi there, I believe AK47 has a set of brand new Brembo 6 pistons caliper with 366mm disc, pads & steel lines, available for sale. It will be a huge difference after you install it. Also, better tires will improve handling & braking. ![Cool](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif)

KC, to be honest, I don't think 6 piston is OTT for a 323i. My 520i have Brembo 8 pistons w/ 380 mm for front & 4 piston w/355 mm on the back.

well, I appreciate we are from different walks of life. I just dont think I am able to or dare to drive my car that fast on public roads to warrant these big brakes. besides, what about the cars behind, they dont have big brakes and I am worried that they will hit into the back of mine (I guess then it would be their fault and have to pay up
)
anyway, are you using the brembo pads designed for your 8 pistons? have you tried others?

If you driving alone with Merc or lexus at 100km/h and put your foot down on the brake together, BMW will mostly win the battle
The key is people love their car so much and don't dare to put their foot down to the bottom
(Just my opinion)

Yes, I am using Brembo / Pagid pads for my brakes. No, I have not tried others since they are still in 90%.
Good luck

OEM brakes are good enough unless you are driving 150km/h on a steep mountain road which requires continously braking,
If you driving alone with Merc or lexus at 100km/h and put your foot down on the brake together, BMW will mostly win the battle
