I am using D3 and with some decent lens and flash it can weigh more than 3kg easily. might be too heavy for kid to carry around.

keith - I spoke with bmw maintenance staff and they told me if you put new pads on used discs, depending on the state of the discs, this sometimes will cause squeaking noise.

The squeak still happening to me sometime, but i can bare with it.
Since the discs were still pretty new (Less than 10K before the redstuff), so no plan to change the discs yet

Yes, he is correct for most safety and easy way. Change new pads and new rotors at the same time. Better with steel line and change brake fluid also.
