how old is your son?

I am using D3 and with some decent lens and flash it can weigh more than 3kg easily. might be too heavy for kid to carry around.

keith - I spoke with bmw maintenance staff and they told me if you put new pads on used discs, depending on the state of the discs, this sometimes will cause squeaking noise.
Yes, he is correct for most safety and easy way. Change new pads and new rotors at the same time. Better with steel line and change brake fluid also.

Since the discs were still pretty new (Less than 10K before the redstuff), so no plan to change the discs yet

with the charming gene from you I think you son doesn't need the top photo gear to get chicks. D700 should be enough. Afterall the kids just need something to open up conversation.
