Someone help my trunk will not close. I had notice the last few weeks that I had to slam the trunk pretty hard to get it to close now it will not close at all. It seems like there is something in the way but there is not. crawled in the trunk and tried to shut it so that I can see what was blockin it but I could not find anything. And don't worry my back seat is currently out of the car so I would not get stuck in there. Anyone have any insight on this?

 

If you press the little release switch (above the license plate) do you hear any noise? If it's working properly, you should hear a little motorized servo or solenoid sound. If you don't hear anything, the switch may be stuck.

Sometimes the rubber gasket that surrounds the switch can become dislodged and force the switch to stay in the "release" position. Get a good look at the entire area up under there and make sure it looks like things are flush and sealed.

If that isn't the issue, double check that the release handle in the trunk is properly seated (the handle you are supposed to use to open the trunk if you end up getting carjacked or accidentally locked in the trunk.)

 

Rudy it does make the noise and the handle is seated. from inside the trunk the latch does not come and meet the striker.

 

Hmmm. Without seeing it myself, it's hard to say what could be happening other than a mechanical misalignment of some sort.

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are -- if you are, see if the following documents shed any light on things. If not, tie it down and take it to the dealer, I guess (or maybe BMW roadside assistance?)

I am very mechanically inclined, I have wrenching on cars for a long time. I will give this a shot and see what I come up with.
