Hi All

I am picking up my new 525D sport today and really looking forward to it, HOWEVER i do have a concern. The test drive seemed fine, but I am now becoming paranoid that it will be to stiff for me over bumps/rough roads. I know you will say it will be fine and I will get used to it, but what are the options if i do find it too stiff (apart from selling it) Change the suspension?? It has 19" options fitted (Non RF) lower the tyre pressure?? will it be softer after a few miles (the dealer said it would) I have ben told that an SE suspension can be fitted, will this be much smoother. Thanks in advance. :

Why worry before you even got the car? Drive around for a few weeks and get used to the car.

My first alternative would be to change the wheels to 18" or even 17" if I thought the car was to stiff. But you may not want to go that way if you are the type that wants really large wheels.

I guess that the suspension could always be changed but this may be to a high cost.

I have ordered my 525dT with 16" wheels and no runflats because I prefer comfort on the highway over handling in curves. I may change the wheels later if they look to small. But not larger than 17".

Only a week to go for me now, puh!

Hi and congratulations on the new car. I went from an E46 330cd M Sport to an E60 M sport. The ride in the 3er was very harsh, I really felt knackered after a long trip. The tramlining was terrible too. My first impression of the E60 was that the ride was far superior. No tramlining and although the ride was firm, over the same road the E60 felt much better. A month into ownership and I started to become irritated by the ride quality. I could feel every bump on the motorway and was unhappy with the ride on other roads. Solved the problem by jumping in the wifes Passat - my E60 felt so much better after that. Its surprising how quickly you get used to a car and jumping in another car always makes my car feel great to come back to.

Yes, the ride is firm in the E60, and noticably so when the tyres are cold and/or when I am tired. Just try to think of it as a sporty car with good handling and performance and not a luxury MB style slug cruiser and you will be fine. People on the forum seem to see improvements in ride quality when changing from RFTs to your setup, so hopefully you will get the benefit. I am on RFT's and don't really have problems with them.

I hope you enjoy your car.

Cheers

I've got a 530d M-Sport with the 19" 172 style wheels (NRF) and I'm amazed at how good the ride quality is given the sports suspension, big wheels and low profile tyres. It certainly rides better than my A4 quattro sport on 17" wheels did.

I'd recommend sticking with things as they are for at least a coulpe of months before you change. I'll think you'll be surprised - I was.
