Just out of curiousity. What engine oil are you using? This is a known problem and I had the same problem the first winter I owned my car. I haven't noticed it ticking
since then.

BMW High Performance SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Oil* (BMW part number 07 51 0 017 866). Are you aware of a better oil?
