I think the problem is just with 2004 models.

 

Last time I took my car in for service my BMW Assist was made inoperable. I was told it was being worked on. That was last June. I guess I need a refund.

 

nickferr, I'm not holding my breath at this point. It's likely you're going to end up with bad news once your dealer figures out that they were mistaken.


I don't think the problem with nav/sirius is related to BMW Assist -- that was Bluetooth.

Nav cars have an entirely different computer system and there is some extra antenna issues, I think, that are causing the conflict...

 

Don't worry. This is a conversation only relevant for 04 vehicles. My 05 has sat and nav and works just fine. But ... and it is a relatively minor but ... there is no voice control for Sirius. They just left it out apparently. I'm sure it will be fixed on a future update.....

 

And, isn't it appalling to think of tying up the courts over an issue like this? I can't imagine that it would have to go that far. Did BMW break the law in any of our countries? They did tell us that though the feature was expected, it was not available, prior to purchase. I'd say only if, in writing, they guaranteed a subsequent retrofit, would anyone be eligible for an award, beyond the $75, which is clearly due on principle. What would the award be? What's the actual harm done to the consumer by the lack of an entertainment option that was disclosed as unavailable?

I'm not taking sides, but I'd say it's highly unlikely that this would be a successful venture.

Yes, it stinks. I completely agree. I'm just not sure what remedy really exists beyond the $75 and keeping pressure on them to deliver. I wish lawsuits didn't have to be the pressure.

Gentlemen, these stock answers from BMW are the same ones they fed us over Bluetooth. Well we managed to get BT retrofiited on post 3/04 production cars. They gave us the same BS. Both BMWNA and the dealers. My sales manager was convinced that there would never be a fix and that CPT9000 was the only way to go. So I scheduled my car for an $1100 optional upgrade. The day I took it in, I gave them TIS bulletins and spent $110 to have Bluetooth, which IMO works as well as the CPT only the phone stays in my pocket.

So ignore all the official (lets watch what we say to avoid getting sued) propaganda and sit tight. For all you know SW V15 will be out in a couple of weeks and Bingo!
