Get a slight knock in steering at times

I hear ya. Me too but I have resigned myself to accepting the slight effect if it saves me ?400 or more from my dealer for a new rack or whatever. I find that more gentle and progessive inputs to the steering also makes it less pronounced than giving the wheel a good yank. As my car is almost 4 years old and has covered 82000 miles it's something I'm prepared to accept particularly as the car is spot on in all other respects.

3. Burring can be detected on plastic bearing rings manufactured between 12/03 and 04/04. This burring can result in a cracking or grinding noise in individual cases.
Service measures:
Concerning cause 1: Replace the Torx bolt securing the bottom of the steering spindle to the universal joint with corrugated tube and tighten it to a torque of 28 Nm (refer to current EPC for Torx bolt). The torques in TIS are being updated accordingly.
Concerning cause 2: Treat the telescopic toothing on the steering spindle with a lubricant spray. BMW part number: 83 22 0 397

My Ride: 2005 BMW 525D M-SPORT // Grey // SB attached
mine was lubed and hasnt been a problem since. I am expecting it to come back though , and i dont yank my steering wheel any more ...
