I have an 07 525i and am averaging 26mpg overall. I have all stop-and-go traffic to work. Highway mileage is 35mpg at 75mph. I will gladly give up some fuel economy to have a car that is a pleasure to drive and not a death trap in an accident than have a bottom line vehicle, like a Prius, just to save a few dollars at the pump.

Maybe I am not driving hard enough
because I am consistently getting 24.7 mpg in my 2004 530i. Now that is with 50/50 HWY driving, but its HWY driving in Las Vegas, which is oftentimes very congested.

on my wife 2002 330 cic she averaged 23-24 mpg in stop and go to work. she averaged about 35 to 45mph. the same car on a drive from seattle to la averaged 28+. my old 330i from seattel to pittsburg got into the 30s. i got 21 with my 545 maunal and 26 on the sea to pitts trip. its all in how you drive.
