I get about the same with my 2004 530i...trafic gas comsumption is very bad...I guess these cars aren't made for trafic jams

'04 525i with the 6 speed. I drive 90 miles to and from work every day in New Jersey, 50/50 mixed local stop and go and highway at 80 mph. I average 31-32 mpg but can get up to 35 if I baby the car (put into high gear asap, coast up to stops, etc). Nobody can believe I drive this beautiful bimmer and get such great milage!

I have a 2005 525 Auto and get 20mpg around town but 30 on motorway driving. I know the UK MPG fugures are slightly different from you guys over there.
On the same note Ive got a 2008 520d as a loaner (major engine and transmission problems on the 525) and its doing 44mpg on mixed driving!

I have a 2005 545i and we bought this about 4 weeks ago and I love this car. By far hands down the best overall car IMHO. Anyways, my dilema was MPG between the 530 and 545 as well. We do like 90% hwy driving and after talking and researching the big difference between the 530 and 545 in gas mileage is city driving. I was told that for hwy driving the gas mileage is almost negligible. We get 23.5 mpg with our 545i but that is like 90% hwy driving.

For mixed city / highway driving, what kind of gas mileage do you get on each of these cars? The reason I'm asking is that we love our 545i and my wife and I would argue over which one of us has to drive the Prius (if we were to buy one.) I'm wondering what mileage I can expect if I bought her and '05 525 or 530... the CPO deals right now are very good, while Prius pricing in the California is getting ridiculous for the type of car you get- about $27-28k with the options.

My '05 530i is getting about 25 mpg at average speed of 36 mph (more highway than city roads). On trips I have seen better than 31 mpg.

I have an 07 525i and am averaging 26mpg overall. I have all stop-and-go traffic to work. Highway mileage is 35mpg at 75mph. I will gladly give up some fuel economy to have a car that is a pleasure to drive and not a death trap in an accident than have a bottom line vehicle, like a Prius, just to save a few dollars at the pump.
