For mixed city / highway driving, what kind of gas mileage do you get on each of these cars? The reason I'm asking is that we love our 545i and my wife and I would argue over which one of us has to drive the Prius (if we were to buy one.) I'm wondering what mileage I can expect if I bought her and '05 525 or 530... the CPO deals right now are very good, while Prius pricing in the California is getting ridiculous for the type of car you get- about $27-28k with the options.

My Ride: 2004 BMW 530i - no mods. Pretty basic really. I mean it has tires, windows, and a sweet look, what more could a man want? Honestly, I'd like to improve the sound system mildly, and possibly find a worthy engine mod that would increase my BHP by 100 without giving an arm and a leg for. I don't think it's out there, so I'll stay stock and love driving my 530i.

Well I have an 04 530i, and I've been driving pretty what I think is conservative since the hike increase on gas prices. Still I'm seeing 20 ~ 21 MPG with 1/2 HWY and 1/2 city commute to work - total miles to work 5. My wife has a 06 330i and we're seeing 22~23 MPG driving the same commute - we car pool. By no means are 530 2004 or the 330i 2006 what I consider gas savers.... I love my cars and won't trade them, but there's other cars out there that do a heck of a lot better. For example... <flamesuite on> I had a 2004 Nissan Maxima that seen 26 MPG on the same commute :-0, at 265 HP it was amazing it was so conservative... I can only assume the newier BMW's do better on gas, and still keep the performance. Like I said, I love my cars and wouldn't trade them for anything -- well not entirely true, things would have get really bad before I unload our BMW's.

'07 530xi ... in 50-50 mixed driving yields 22.3 mpg (tracked for the past 5k miles); Highway trips avg 26.4mpg; with easy cruising [72mph] in light traffic for 200 miles brings 28mpg. I drive conservatively with a few sprints every now and then for giggles. AWD does take its toll on fuel economy.

In City peak hour avg 36Km/h I get 12l/100km

Converting to US measures that is avg of 22.3mph @ 19.6USmpg

And in hwy driving avg 100kmh I get 6.2l/100km

US measures avg 62mph @ 38mpg
