TOTALLY!! Talk about a power trip. God, it's like a velvet rope bouncer with an earpiece that thinks they're the most important thing since the polio vaccine.

And yeah, it's not just toyota dealerships. BMW of Manhattan, AFTER I told them about 7 times before buying the car, STILL drilled the friggin front M-tech bumper. Gave some nonsense about liability and I told them so have me sign a goddam waiver or something for god's sake!

Oh, and when I say "drilled" I mean "self tapped with a friggin screw big enough to frame a house."
bastards. My M5 was originally an Oklahoma car - no front plate, and if a NY dealership drilled it without asking me I would have launched the SA into the next county!

Just move to LA. Plenty of folks there have no rear plate and rarely get harassed by the po-po. Just stick on a dealer paper plate and tell the nice officer how the DMV never sent your plate in the mail. (Just kidding. Don't do this. The people I know who do this are not exactly model citizens to say the least. But it's amazing what people get away with in LA.)

Not just New York, we have a front plate requirement in Cali too, but it's just a $10 "fix-it" ticket if you don't have one. It's just not worth the hassle, I hate getting pulled over. At least we don't have the Safety Inspection every year (of course if you saw some of the crappy cars here on the roads you'd wish we did)
it's $25 now!
