I remember you from roadfly.

I never needed to turn the DSC off except in snow. The car, with a manual trans, is just plain responsive and I enjoy the hell out of pushing it.

I have not driven an SMG yet. Was getting the car washed today and up came a new M5. Silverstone / Black. I talked to the owner and he said he had the engine modified to put out 600HP. Didn't get into details, but DAMN!

I absolutely stand by my comment. If you or anyone is "street racing", you are moron! And, anyone who is street racing deserves and should be called a moron. First, street racing in illegal, and can land you in Prison for a good chunk of time. I think someone who risks going to prison for a cheap thrill is a moron. Second, you can seriously injure or kill innocent people when street racing, which will only compound point one, and devastate innocent family and friends. I believe deliberately doing illegal activities, which can injure and hurt innocent people does make a person a moron.

How in the world can anyone condone ILLEGAL actions, which could result in prison, serious injury, or death?
Have you ever seen a real street race? Here's my little experience, I was driving at night 4AM one day and all of a sudden, 10+ rice rockets blow by me. They don't care for other cars on the road (me) as they just cuts right in front of me to make the most use of the road and after a few miles ahead, I saw them gathering at a gas station. The whole thing is planned by these guys now I would consider that street racing and not two guys trying to outrun each other to the next light.

Name calling other members on this forum is unacceptable IMO, what makes you think you are a better person and that you have the rights to call other morons? Did you have the actually IQ test done to show others that you are indeed smarter?
I think we are all viewing different circumstances. I street race ( You can see my latest work at "Raced an Audi S4 4.2" in this forum) but I'm not cutting people off and driving on sidewalks when I do it. I have been driving for many years and have NEVER crashed into anyone or anything, I do not even have a door ding on my 545is. I have done an "indicated" 160 mph with my E60 on the street as well, there was only one other car on the road- the 350Z behind me.
I think you are on the wrong forum to preach your Department of Motor Vehicles mantra.
One thing I will agree with, Don't drive beyond your capabilities.
Hey don't shoot the by-stander. Are you agreeing with what he say that people like us who drag "race" with the guy next to us is a moron. I have to disagree with that, sorry for defending myself.

Let's stop here before this topic gets lock.
No, Ac_S5 I was not talking about you. I know I responded out of sequence, I was just continuing the discussion. Sorry.

Who Friggin cares! Geez! I consider people who drag race their cars morons. If you want to race, go to a race track and become a "real" race car driver. I have seen way too many accidents from street racing. It is a serious danger to others. Enjoy the BMW for what it is meant to do, drive very, very well. Take it out on the back roads, have some fun, but drive SAFE.
I don't think we, on this forum, are into flaming; disrespecting others their opinions, or their foilbles; or being impolite. I do some ocassional street racing when it is safe enought IMO--which is not a justifiable reason for doing an irresponsible thing. But, I am not a moron nor do I like being referred to as one. What are your foibles? Do you talk on your cell phone while driving? Do you drive under the influence whether or not feeling the effects? Do you drive over the speed limit? You can tell the truth here. Most of us won't call you a moron. And, why are the back roads so safe? It's a matter of opinion and preference, right? But, if one disagrees with another, it doesn't make him or her a moron, right?
Yup totally agreed, I think we are all mature and responsible adults, but sometimes we just act like a kid behind the wheels Maybe the E60 make us feel young again.

Edit: Not that I am old, I am not even 30 yet.
Who are you saying condoned such actions? I, for one, did not, although, yes, I do some street racing when, in my judgment, the circumstances are safe. I also indicated that I believe it is irresponsible for me to do so. I don't try to justify my foilbles.

Please don't refer to anyone here as a moron. There are no morons here. There are people you disagree with and who are willing to take some risks that you are not, but that is all. You make some valid points, but they lose all force on those you apparently are trying to reach when you call people morons, etc. Name calling, etc., make you look like one who is replying simply to cause an uproar.

And, you didn't answer my questions. I'll repeat them for you.

"What are your foibles? Do you talk on your cell phone while driving? Do you drive under the influence whether or not feeling the effects? Do you drive over the speed limit? Why are the back roads so safe [and immune to your criticism]? It's a matter of opinion and preference, right? But, if one disagrees with another, it doesn't make him or her a moron, right?"

And, here are a few more. Do you argue with your wife or children when driving? Do you eat while driving? Do you fiddle with your iDrive while driving? Do you read while driving? Are you ever unattentive while driving? Have you ever been involved in a serious wreck in which your were at fault? Have you ever been involved in an incident of road rage? Do you allow your teenager to drive with or without a license? Do you drive in a spirited manner (e.g., taking curves fast) even if not racing. Do you drive having taken medications that warn against driving having taken them?

I never really thought of turning off the DCS and traction control, is the car much faster with it off?

Yes. Doing so makes a great deal of difference off the line. And, if the effects of these nannies persist after that point, then they will slow you down later too.

OK, ok. I've changed my mind, gentlemen. I now condone adults who street race. I'll report back later. I'm going to roll over to the Sonic; get a #1 combo, with mayo; and look for some poor pimple-faced little punk driving a Z28, who wants to drag. I hope to God he doesn't have a K&N rig and a fatty pipe.

I will, of course, take my stopwatch with me. Isn't that what every responsible German luxury sedan street racer does? I have to post my quarter mile time, after all.

Politicians like to use the word, "Moron." It used to refer to a class of people, but now it's being used to call others, "stupid." I prefer to use the word, "unwise, not smart, not level minded, etc." Street racing" is unssafe and illegal, but it happens for different reasons and circumstances, e.g, adrenaline, rage, scheduled, etc. For instance, if Znod and I knew of a deserted 1 mile stretch and decided to race his Z06 against my future modded supercharger 545i to 60 mph or 1/4 trap, I do not think we are "moron." Calculated risk taking does not make one a moron, nor is breaking the law makes a person a moron.

The point is, no one deserves to be call a moron except himself/herself. Why? Because he/she would know his/her own story and action.

BTW, was the original poster racing in the streets?

You are welcome. And, you made good points. For example, DSC and DTC both not off could have lost the race depending on unknown factors.

He's referring to your "relivered 11-10-2003" in your signature Grogan.
Oh, I see. We all misunderstood what 700700 was saying. grogan got a new liver 11/10/03. So, it was him that was "relivered."

It's been more than 2 years since I have been relivered and I am feeling much better. Some of us read posts for content and subject matter that interests us,and others look for mzpelld words. Thanks EuroCarFan for pointing out 700700's reason for his post

What are you doing racing a G35 anyway??? Way too much to lose on your part!!! I have a 530 and I get challenged to races all the time. Who's the man when you pull up to the traffic light and everyone wants to see who's in the beam???
If you wanted to race you should have bought an ole' ass civil and did the Fast and Furious thing (don't forget the neon lights on the undercarriage)! Why buy a lux BMW???
