Migrate to US. M5 in US cheaper than 530i in Singapore.

I just registered as a member, having taken delivery of my 530i on 1 July from PML. To date, I have only put on 250kms on the car, and no problems to report so far.

I read all the posts in the 'Thread that will not die' until 3am this morning. Lots of interesting stuff I must say.

I have a couple of questions for the 530i owners out there:

1. Has anyone tried to order the Universal Remote Control? I tried, but my PML SE told me that the ordering manager in PML refused to entertain any such queries.
2. Has anyone looked into chip tuning for the M54 3.0l here in Singapore?
3. Are there any performance mods that are easily fitted?
4. Has anyone seen the white tailight kit for the E60's?

I look forward to hearing from you enthusiasts.

6spman, I do not recommend chip tuning, especially for 530i which is already very fast. How fast can you drive in Singapore? Also, you will void the warranty with chip tuning. The white tail light makes the car look cheap and is not recommended.

Hi Ed520,
I have owned manual cars since I started driving over 27 years ago. The list includes 3 Porsches (924 Turbo, 944 Turbo S, 911C4), 3 BMW's (e30 325i, e30 M3, e36 M3), and 1 Volvo (2004 S60R).

The only auto I ever owned was a 98 e39 528i which I bought in 2001 in Singapore. Nice car but let down by the vague feeling of the 5spd Steptronic. It lacked the crisp response that I had gotten used to after many years of driving (and renting) manual transmission cars.

When I test drove the PML 530i in Dec, I was impressed by how far the 6spd Steptronic had advanced compared to my old e39. However, it still lacked the crispness of a manual, and the engine control that a 3.0l motor can provide.

Besides, I have itchy hands. For the record, my wife also drives a manual - an e46 325i Cabriolet.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Wow...u the sports car man. If I add up all the car you own, the depreciation could worth millions.

Hi Sg520i,
Your point about the 'bengness' of white tailights is noted. Have you seen a picture of the white tailights on a Titanium Silver 530i in the 5 series accessories brochure. It looks quite good.

As for the 530 being able to take most cars in Singapore, it is not my intention to race every mother's son on the roads here. Compared to my S60R which has 300bhp and 400nm of torque, the 530 feels a little flat.

Thanks for your input.
