Nono, I am not referring to the AUX IN. Its the Original BMW interface for Apple iPod.

"You can now enjoy the flexibility of your iPod even at the wheel of your BMW. A direct connection to the audio system gives you access to all of your stored tracks. At the same time, your iPod remains safe in the glove box. Using the BMW Radio, the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel or the iDrive Controller, you can operate your iPod easily and safely. The result is optimum sounds all around."

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/accessori...ipod_facts.html

Its on offer at PML now.

Model......Special Price...Usual Price
5 Series...$763.68.........$855.63
6 Series...$767.49.........$860.12

Ipod Interface
Description
display detail information for the current track (artist and time index)
track search by artist, album, playlist on the on-board monitor or radio display
repeat function (RPT: not possible on all radios) Repeat the current track

Benefits
safe storage of the ipod in the glove compartment
easy and safe to use with the radio, multi-functional steering wheel control
the entire music collection is available at all times by selecting artistes, albums or playlists
I know all that; but if u've already got aux in and the vi, then ......

Anyway, I heard you've gotta sacrifice the 6 disc changer? Does this apply only to new car option or retrofit also?

Like I said before; nothing beats playing the CD. Furthermore, our cars can play MP3 recorded CDs. Just food for thought.

I have to choose either a full iPod interface or keep the changer and save some money. Furthermore I still need to buy an iPod as I have never believed in MP3 quality. But many told me lossless compression is almost as good as the original, barring the quality of the iPod vs the changer, and this is what I wanna to verify. Can we play MP3 using stock system? Anyway I am just having some itch that needed to be scratched

4th Feb GTG sounds good. Got time got place and I will be there.

Well Zag, thats the perils of buying a product with no local representative. Would you consider going to BVO and do a remap? I heard Bernard had written e60 softwares himself and dyno charts proved the increase in horses and torque.

Anyway this Sunday GTG is at 4.30PM. Wanna go? Anyone else?

Budi, I have an I-pod. Believe me; you wouldn't wanna replace your changer with that thing. The playback is nothing compared to CD.

I can play MP3 in my single CD slot. However, my system is the professional and not business.

Do you have an iPod interface or just an AUX IN? They are totally 2 different things. I believed for an AUX IN, the connection to the iDrive is via the headphone jack, which would degrade the signal when feeding into the iDrive. Furthermore, I was told that there is some kind of resistor along the signal path that might also degrade the sound. A full iPod interface, however, gets the signal from line level output of the iPod, generally a 2-3V signal, and thus signal loss is kept to minimal.
