The risk is probably very low. As an option, if the group gets too large, maybe we can hire rest station security guard to jaga our rides? I am sure a bit of incentives would give us peace of mind?
Good suggestion! When we travel in motorcycle groups, we pay car park attendants to jaga our bikes. So far so good.

my suggestion is to totally avoid kl.

after all we are really doing the run up just to enjoy our ride.

going up in a convoy driving wise would be safe but it will definately draw attention, we are talking about a fleet of e60 on the wanted list and it would be dam easy for the syndicate to prey on us and either one of us losing our ride will destroy the whole experience not to mention should anyone getting hurt in the process..touch wood.

could we by pass kl.

i used to frequent up kl and i did not bat an eye lid, parked every where, but then i was driving a 3 series and it was not on target list so was not worried.
ed..avoid wat r"epeat of the exchanges after our last trip up north"?
Yeah, avoid KL. Thats a very good idea not because of car thefts but also because of traffic jams. As to [b], I will have to disagree with you. Going up north in a convoy is definitely safer because there is always safety in numbers. The bmw-sg group always travel to Sepang in convoys of many cars and they have not hd problems so far.

Remember the last trip Russo organised? I came online to mention that I did 273 Km/h in the M and someone added some opinion about doing such speeds and there was a short exchange amongst some members which did no good for anyone.

Anyway, 11 or 18 or any other date is good for me. However, I'm not trying to suggest another timing, but leaving at 10am might just be abit too late if we want to make it back by evening. Remember; its approx 380Km up to KL plus another 380Km back, we're looking at 760Km. If we drive at 120Km/h, then the whole trip (w/out stops) will take 6 hours 40 min. Throw in the stops and small diversions, we'll add on another 2 hours which makes it a total of 8 hours 40 min. Then lets not forget the snarl at both ends of the border. Furthermore driving 6 hours in the afternoon sun will surely tire any driver out. Might I suggest 2 drivers per car?

Let's make it at 9am to cross the 2nd link. At a decent pace (between 120-160kph), it should get us to the destination at about 12.30pm or latest 1pm (assuming some traffic along the road repair segment), perfect for lunch break. Based on my estimate, we should definitely be back before dark.

More importantly, the group needs to set off on time and we should be doing OK. Lunch should last less than 1 hour, afterall, serving is fast.

2 drivers per car is ideal, to ease driving fatique but if everyone wants to bond with their own ride, that would be a problem. What would be helpful is to have passengers that will not sleep all the way, but to provide conversations/entertainment to keep the driver alert? Alternatively, there is this button on the left steering wheel that reads "+"....just need to keep pressing it. hehe.

Anybody keen on the Motorola T5500? BMW-SG recently organised a group buy @ SGD 90.00/set of 2. I can't get such a low price, but my friend Sam who's an E60 driver can sell these sets to us @ SGD 100.00/set. Pls pm me and I will let you have his ctc.

even at $100, it is very good price for its funtionality. good for tracking kids in a big shopping mall.
of course there some better sets but cost slightly higher.

Still seems ok to me. Changed a few parts though before warrenty period so all is well. Never really failed me before other than the car battery. Quite a faithful car I must say.
