Well said Edlee, I can't really remember who told me this before but this fuction works best when you are being caught by suprise.

Let say you were in a deserted car park and you were just getting into the car when a junkie comes in by the other door and sits next to you. There is nothing you can do but to distract the junkie for a split second, yank open the door, slam it and remotely lock it. The junkie will be trapped in the car while you make a dash for safety and call the cops.

To be honest, I think the function protects you from attack from outside rather than locking the attacker inside. I stand corrected on this but I think I have read somewhere that one can kick the upper corner of the windscreen hard and it will dislodge. I just can't remember whether it is for the E60.

Hi Everyone,

I am tempted to ge the bluetooth retrofit, but I have a Pocket PC that does not seems to be able to connect to it. So may have to get a new phone.

Can I just make a poll to see who in Singapore has it and what phone they use and the features they can use with the phone ?

Phone model: [b]
Car model: [b]BMW E60
[ ] ability to make/receive calls from I-drive control
[ ] ability to make/receive calls from phone only
[ ] phone book automatically synches to car I-Drive
[ ] dial by name (From the I-drive control)
[ ] voice dial (via the steering wheel speach button)
[ ] calling name display on the I-drive
[ ] ability to send/receive SMS from I-drive

* n = no
** y=yes

Thanks !!

Here goes...

Phone model: Siemens S65
Car model: BMW E60
[Y] ability to make/receive calls from I-drive control
[Y] ability to make/receive calls from phone only
[Y] phone book automatically synches to car I-Drive
[Y] dial by name (From the I-drive control)
[N] voice dial (via the steering wheel speach button)
[Y] calling name display on the I-drive
[N] ability to send/receive SMS from I-drive

I think Pocket PC phones are tricky with BMW Bluetooth, probably safer to go with a Treo 650 if you need a PDA phone.

I have not got the chance to try a Treo but eggz is right in that they are rather tricky. I liked my P910i alot and have flash upgraded the firmware but still in vain and very fedup coz the T630 (much lesser feature than P910i) works so well....

Almost opted for the RAZR V3 but held back coz it had only 5MB to internal memory.

Went to Sepang today for another track session. Was actually more fun today than previous since I kind of know the dos and don'ts now.

Didn't go that fast on the NS, only managed 200km/h for a stretch.

No spins on the track this time though it was a bit more greasy today (probably from a bit of rain in the morning), so quite a bit of sliding, which is good fun.

Had a scary moment at turn 2, a bit too aggresive going in, lots of understeer, which I stupidly attempted to try and correct with more throttle instead of lifting off, the sluggish steptronic was just so slow selecting 2nd gear and I got a dynamic drive malfunction light . First time I've seen this, it was back to the pits immediately, to check the manual Didn't get the light on subsequent runs so I think it's a one off thing.

Best lap was 3 min 1 sec. Ok..I know totoseow's gonna laugh at me

Oh yeah, gave a couple of E39 owners taxi rides, they are potential E60 buyers, I think they were generally quite impressed with the E60.

There was only 1 M3, didn't ask the timing, most of the E46s, a couple of 325s, one 330 were doing 3 min laps also. But I think the drivers also not very experienced.

There was one GT3 and a Carrera, and a few EVOs, but WT didn't bring his.

The instructions for voice dial is found in the manual (which costs $15.75 for those few pages of text - what a rip-off??).

Press the button (wif side face below the phone button on left of steering wheel, pic below) and you could utter commands like DIAL NUMBER, SAVE NUMBER, DIAL NAME, DIAL NUMBER......... and be greeted wif prompts from a sweet lady's voice for further inputs

It can be quite fun but I found that it cannot recognise my voice input for the number "2" well. Any phone number that I try to verbally train will be mis-recognised as a "0" or a "4" at times and my final command would be a "CANCEL" in frustration!
