Default E60 non comfort key fob works intermittently

My (non comfort - so I can't replace the battery) key fob only works within about 2 metres of the car and only then intermittently. Sometimes it will work straight-away other times I have to wave it around while pressing the unlock or lock buttons. Does anyone have a thought as to what the problem might be?

The BMW dealer was not very helpful apart from having me purchase a new one and another local outfit could 'build' me a new fob. All quite expensive options.

I have purchased an after market fob, is there a process for syncing this to a 2007 BMW E60 525i? I have read some threads that talk about this but nothing seemed concrete.

Thanks.

The key fob you purchased you can't do anything with. It was a bad buy. Just forget about it.

Try reading up on posts about the diversity antenna. You will end up trying to clean the contacts or replacing it.
