Question N47 520D remapping question

Evening all,

I have an E60 520D, 177bhp standard, 76k miles - very well looked after.

Have just came back from having it remapped with a stage 1 remap, to say I am disapointed would be an understatement.

When going for a test drive with the guy who performed the remap for me, I commented that the car felt no different performance wise, he advised that I was changing gear to soon in the rev range. I change gears at around 2500rpm, but the remapper guy says I shouldn't be changing until 3500-5000rpm (which to me feels like the engine is screaming at me).

I advised that I don't drive that way, and that my girlfriends car (a 306 HDi which has also had a stage 1 remap) almost flies when at 1700-2500rpm, as such I kinda felt my car should behave similarly. He also advised that the map on the 306 HDi is a rubbish map as it boosts to early in the rev range, which will cause damage. This is something I find hard to believe, as the guy who I had that map from is very well known and respected in the HDi world (Pro_Steve).

I have drove the car on a local dual carriageway, and went up to 4000-5000 rpm - and again, felt little to no difference in performance compared to the original standard map.

Am I expecting to much ?, or is the remapper bs'ing me ?

Any advice gratefully received.
