It's been a back and forth debate for a while now. I just hope all who do own are licensed as such.

I'm sorry my remarks where not directed at you in anyway I was merely talking about this thread and how it's been dragging. It just so happens that your post about the joke made it into the post before mine did so it appears I was directing it to you when I was not.

I'm getting a bit tired of this debate and I'm just reading it. Here are my suggestions:
1) Agree to disagree. Or have a shoot out and see who wins (I kid
)2) Because of the topic of this thread, most people who reply here are ones that do carry guns and which fastkevin has already pointed out, do not represent the majority of the people in the US. Avoid generalizing their viewpoints to the rest of the country whether it's right or wrong.
3) Let's get back to the original question of this thread and let those with applicable input reply and take the Pro vs Con debate of owning guns somewhere else. Please....
To point number 3, My friends and I used to have some elaborate sound systems in our old cars and we had built-in hidden compartments in the speaker enclosures for our guns that open with the remote control. Of course, we only used it to carry our guns to the range.
To that point, I hadn't been to the range for over a dozen years but because of this thread, my wife made a date night for us at a range this past weekend and it was a lot of fun.

I didn't take it personally, no worries. I figured something got heated in previous replies.

Not with me and the other members but there were some serious discussions amongst others. I'm cool with everyone I'm just pissed I did not get to talk to you at the meet and ask about the upgrades you did to your car. I did get a photo of you car:

Yes I did read all of your post. I guess you misunderstood my reply. When I said why else would you carry one I meant 'you' as in the people that do carry guns, not you personally. I know the majority don't carry guns but we're not talking about them. We're talking about the ones that do.
As you say, the ones "with no real reason to carry a personal firearm, but do anyway is IMO the overwhelming majority". Why is that? My opinon would be for the majority of law abiding citizens it's insecurity (i.e. they feel unsafe). For those less law abiding then the reason is obvious (but why not, it's their "right" isn't it?).
I've been to the US numerous times. I don't think you're all cowboys and I don't think everyone carries a gun. Not once have I suggested otherwise. However, I do think far too many people do carry guns and they are far too freely available.
Someone mentioned that guns don't kill people, people do. Well, actually, people with guns kill people. Without the gun there is no shooting.
I can't see that this will ever be resolved and it's just my opinion (along with everyone I know outside the US).

The US isn't Lebanon nor the West Bank(although some of our urban ares have more murders
). My personal feeling is extreme circumstances notwithstanding (someone who carries large bank deposits on a regular schedule-as I wrote), there is no legitimate reason to carry a gun on your person or in your car. I'm not anti-firearm(I spent a few years in the military and currently own one myself) ,agree that people kill people, and if you remove the guns, they'll find another way. It DOES however bother me a tad bit that there's people running around with firearms at the ready in their car, considering the amount of short-fused morons we have on the road, and this goes contrary to what I think about "people kill people", as that mode of thinking goes against "gun control". I'm all for "controlling" it to the point where I don't have to worry about some up-tight psycho in the car next to me, caressing his S&W .40 as he's driving down the road. My view(s) might be considered "meeting in the middle" I guess.
