Even I want this thread to die. Last time, we basically agreed thus:

1. Everybody in the world thinks Americans are a little odd
2. The Americans think everybody else doesn't understand them
3. The best place to tote your "piece" is in the rear armrest storage, or in a holster about your person

Can't we just leave it at that and be done with it?

Please?

So the rest of the world thinks we're all so insecure we have walk around with a firearm?
If that's the case, they don't understand us. The overwhelming majority of Americans don't carry a personal firearm.
It's illegal in most places as a matter of fact. Heck, in California, they think we're too stupid to talk on a cell phone while we drive, so they just outlawed that. Scary thing is, I've seen idiots talking on the phone while driving, and being totally oblivious to what's going on around them, and what the heck they're doing. Too bad the rest of us had to pay for it.

Why else would you carry one?
And yes, this is a serious question.
Everyone on here that carries seems to be suggesting it's for self defence "in case" they are robbed. How is that not being insecure?

its not the insecurity that has us toting around guns, but the freedom to do it

i mean in california, medicinal marijuana is legal, and alot of ppl take advantage of that because they can, not because theyre drug addicts...

But the "freedom" to do it has led to them being freely available to criminals which in turn has led to ordinary law abiding citizens (such as the good folk on this forum) becoming worried about being held at gun point i.e. insecure.
And as for the argument that people do it just because they can - make it illegal and then they can't!

Things over here are going in the opposite direction....more rights to own and carry. Just ask the folks in D.C. And the new laws there will spill over to all of the other anti-gun states in the US, like CA, MA, NY, etc. The 12th amendment isn't going away any time soon. Do we really need to debate this any further?

Things are different here, as they are there, as they are everywhere in the world. No one is right and no one is wrong. Let's move onto abortion and/or gay rights....not that there's anything wrong with that.

Just on the theme of a few recent replies where everyone outside the US thinks you carry guns because you're insecure - why do you have a gun on your nightstand?
I guess because you're worried that an intruder will come into your house while you're asleep. As guns are freely available chances are they will be armed. Therefore, you feel the need to arm yourself as well. Fair enough. I may well do the same in your situation. But it's because I would feel insecure so please don't say that it's not (not you specifically by the way, one of the other posts argued it was nothing to do with insecurity but I can't work out how to put 2 quotes in!).
Why do Americans that are pro gun-carrying not see that it's the free availability of guns that started the whole situation. I guess the problem you guys have now is that you're so far down that road there's no way back. Even if you banned all guns across the whole of the US tomorrow, there's so many out there it would be meaningless.
Don't get me wrong, I like guns and I have passed an RAF Marksman course. It's just that guns belong on a range, not the streets.

I can't argue with anything said here.
