To get back on point with the original question and point of this post, I think this is the best answer so far....and best choice to store the weapon in the car, with the least risk of it being stolen or stumbled upon. I am going to try this. Thanks.
P.S. I'd never live in a state or country that didn't allow me the right to carry a concealed handgun! FREEDOM!!

Also, it is important to note the following facts:
1. US Jurisdictions with the strongest gun control laws inevitable have higher rates of violent crimes. It seems criminals prefer unarmed victims.
2. At least 3 times more crimes are thwarted by armed law-abiding citizens that by the police. Further Firearms are used by civilians to stop or deter crimes far more than they are used by criminals to commit crimes.
3. Texas and 27 other stats have shall-issue concealed carry laws and have all seen a significant drop in the rate of homicides, robberies, and assaults.

2. Lots of people with guns killing each other. There's more citizens than law enforcers so it's just basic maths. Still doesn't disguise the fact a lot of people are killed with guns.
3. No doubt the petty thief who actually values life would think twice before committing gun crime in one of those states.
At the end of the day there's still far too many people getting killed by guns (over here as well). Luckily, over here the problem is small as it's difficult to get hold of guns. Until the US do the same nothing will change. Banging on about it being "your right" doesn't actually make it "right".
I have to say, on my visits to the US, whenever I returned I felt a whole lot safer. I know we're far from perfect over here but just have a look back through this thread. Any sane person would see there's a big problem. Night sights, scopes, fully automatic weapons? Come on, why?
Mind you, I did enjoy being able to walk into a gun shop in Vegas and fire off some rounds of anything I chose. Scary to know anyone could walk in off the street and do it though.

I think the first thing you have to determine is purpose of the firearm. If you are going to the range, then putting it in the trunk is probably the most logical method of transportation. However, if it?s for self defense then it should be an arms length away. I prefer shoulder holster which I find to be the most comfortable method when sitting for a long period. I was contemplating riveting or screwing a leather holster under the dash by my right knee where it would be accessible and out of site, but have not committed to the idea. Nevertheless, I am defiantly against storing a gun in the car for any long period of time and IMHO I find that to be irresponsible, if some crack head steals my car the last thing I want to do is reward him with my 92FS.

Crazy stuff.
I can't believe so many have guns, but then again, if it's normal to have one and be allowed to carry it on your person then it's no surprise to have a topic on where best to keep the weapon in the car.
Personally, I am of the old belief that handgons are only designed to kill poeple, and nothing else.
The most anyone in Ireland will have for protection is bad breath or maybe a good joke to help the mood.
Then you die and go to the big Guinness Brewery in the sky and sit back and drink as much irish oil as you like.
Not all bad I guess ! Maybe I'll get murdered on the way home !
One can only hope.

You feel you have to carry a gun to have freedom? That's almost funny.
I thought this thread had died a while ago.
