Sorry guys, but those who carry guns and who think that what they are doing is part of the solution to the problems they highlight are really doing nothing more than helping to prolong them. Posts here speak of rights and freedom, and talk of a right to carry arms as an expression of freedom is, quite frankly, bullshit. Guns have absolutely no place in a civilized society. We do not live in the wild west, we do not live in the times when the 2nd amendment was adopted, and in all honestly if one's idea of freedom is needing to carry firearms then I'm looking for a different kind of freedom. As I posted above, with links to my sources, in the same period that the UK had 50 gun related homicides, the US had 11,346 gun related homicides. I don't wish or mean to downplay the crime and social problems in either country, but one has relatively strong gun controls, one in reality does not, and the results speak for themselves.

I'm not agitated, no worries.
I think you will find that far more people die from automobile accidents and heart disease as compared to gun related deaths. Should we outlaw cars and cheeseburgers?

You are correct, this is not the Wild West. I think you will find that there was far less crime and gun related crimes back then. The Wild West was in fact quite civilized. The difference is that everyone carried a gun back then. Carrying a gun legally back then, as it is now, is a crime deterrent.
Gun laws in the UK are strongly enforced. People stopped using guns in crimes due to the punishment for using a gun in a crime not because there are no handguns in the UK. Like I said, get the guns out of the hands of criminals and the problem is solved. Prosecute criminals that use guns in a crime to the full extent of the law, problem solved.
Taking away the rights of law abiding citizens is not the answer.

Glad to hear you are legal!
Unfortunately gun crimes are rarely taken all the way to federal prosecution. I believe gun crimes should be punished to the full extent of the law!!

Hmm, UK has about 50 Million people, the US has 304 Million, more people more crime?
Sorry I am not good at math/calculations etc.. but sure seems like alot more people live in the USA.......
Not to mention our borders are pretty much open on the south, so crime from them too?
So do you have anything to say about the criminals that have/use guns? I mean you are mentioning alot about folks that are legally carrying them, and have a right to carry them via a CHL license, 2nd amendment etc... So they have gone through background checks etc...
But I never see protests from folks like yourself, protesting the criminals that are let go or not treated harsher by the law.
Maybe if our laws were tended to appropriately then maybe we could/would have the same results as the UK.....
I would just love to see anti-gun activists protest the lame sentences these criminals get....... But that will never happen....

The figures i gave earlier WERE corrected for USA vs UK gun homicides on the basis of population. The raw figures were approx USA=12000 UK=90. This puts the USA approx 30 times higher, correcting for the 5:1 population difference.
Being against gun ownership is one thing, but if I lived in the USA I might just think it WAS necessary to have a gun in case the burgular in my house also had one. It doesnt make it right - just the way things are in the USA.

Perhaps
If I lived in Texas (or another gun prevalent area) I would carry a gun. Because that would be the safest thing to do given the environment of so many guns. However societies that have tough gun restrictions, are safer. Here's some interesting stats: http://www.guncontrol.ca/English/Home/Rele...idemicRev07.pdf

When the Personal Protection ACT, shall issue carry law, was passed in MN in 2003 all the opponents said it would become the wild west. People would be shooting each other in duels on the streets. Mass Homicides would ensue. In 2004 light rail made it's debut in MN. To date the 12mile(19 kilomater) light rail has taken 5 lives. Conceal carry has taken ZERO.
